Walk A Mile In Someone Else’s Shoes

27 05 2013

One phase that I have tried to eliminate from my vocabulary is, “I know exactly how you feel.” We may have gone through simliar experiences but as we are all created uniquely thus, we all deal with lives events in our own way.

A quality of leadership is understanding people. One of the best ways I have discovered to understanding people is to be on a continuous course of self-improvement. We will never know exactly how how people feel, but striving to always better ourselves, especially in the area of relationships, we can understand with more empathy, the people in our lives.

For the past several years I have been on a self-directed leadership education with LIFE. The information has helped me be a better teacher, coach, and now a business owner. People can say what they want about leadership development but they can not argue with the results it has for people who have worked to implement the principles into their lives.

I always try to walk a mile in other people’s shoes before I make a judgement on anything. This help me understand before making any kind of decision in the several areas of leadership I am in. Well…..I always felt I wanted to know how my wife felt bringing our three great children into this world. After watching this video, I’m pretty sure I never want to find out.

Enjoy, Steve Leurquin

Steve – This was hilarious. Thanks for the laugh. As with anything worthwhile in our lives you will probably have to go through some pain to get where you want to go or what you want. No pain no gain does make sense. It was all worth it to me to go through the pain to end up with the two fine sons I have. Wouldn’t change a thing.

Great post S!!! Im not sure what was more funny watching the clip or watching you watching the clip!!! I think you were crying at one point!!! You know thou its funny but I remember Mike just being a reck after I gave birth all three times and never undersood why it was so bad for him……until he explained how hard it was to be in his shoes to watch me go through that amount of pain and not be able to take it away or switch places….. After Mikes brain tumor I would have done anything to take away his pain , even switch places… Then I understood what it was like to be in someone elses shoes!!!! Great lesson Steve and way to bring the humor in too!!!

I’m all for self-development and the strive to better understand my wife…but can’t I just read a book? I think I would have lost my verbal filter as soon as my wife gave someone a high-five. Thanks for sharing Steve! 🙂

That was funny, yet I don’t remember giving anyone a high five when my wife was in pain delivering babies. Double standard I guess. 🙂

After watching the vid., I’ve decided to stick with the principle: “You don’t know what you don’t know”, now more than ever; I don’t want to know….
Thanks Steve.

Hilarious ! I like the part where he said ” that was a least a 7 right ? ” , and they said that was a 4 ! The look on his face , priceless . And when he was in the fetal position with the pillow between his legs ….. I lost it !

That was my fave part too, lol. Too funny. I also liked the part where the doctor tells the other guy that right now you’d be getting ready to have another contraction and he says something like “I know, but I don’t wanna do that”.

I asked our dentist “who handles pain better, men or women?”. He said women. I already believed him, but this video proves it. lol

Maybe in general, but let’s not say all men! Some of us have a pretty high tolerance to pain! 🙂

I could tell you who handles pain better in our house……

I love the part where he says to his wife, “Don’t smile at me.”

I laughed so hard when I saw this!
