You’ve Got A Friend In Me

7 05 2012

Jonathan is shy and has low confidence, but he has something that so many great people have on their way to success; a loyal, supportive, trusting friend. This example of character and class brought a tear to my eye as I watched a young man and woman display courage in so many ways that it’s a blueprint for what it truly means to be a friend.

In Orrin Woodward’s book Resolved he has a chapter that lays out 8 principles of true friendship. All 8 principles are shown by both Jonathan and Charlotte. I was Choked up as Charlotte showed unwavering loyalty to Jonathan throughout their lives with encouragement and protection from verbal abuse. Then, when at a time he could have abandoned his friend for a better chance at money and fame, Jonathan showed the same loyalty.

Thank you both for the inspiration of being the refreshing change that is so needed in this world. Steve Leurquin

It turns out I was not the first to show this video to my students…our guidance counselor beat me. However, the students were excited to see it again and it led to GREAT conversations!! Thanks again! 🙂

That was great. I have had few friendships like that before LIFE. Lives are changing as the friendship ‘F’ makes its way back into culture with the power of building a business…who would have thought? Boy does God works in truly amazing ways!!!

Chills through my whole body. That was my brother and sister-in-law’s song that was sung during their candle lighting at their wedding! True friendship right there. Maybe Simon learned something that day. DON’T JUDGE A BOOK BY IT’S COVER. Awesome lesson. Thanks Steve!

If we look deeply enough, we can all learn lessons in our lives everyday.

Steve, this is worthy of everyone’s time. Unconditional love is a lost art in this hectic, face paced world. People need each other like never before! I can name a few people right now that would say you & Jamie have been a great example of this. Hint: One of them is typing at this very moment! :~} Thanks for leading. ~ G

Great point about unconditional love.

Something to be said for truly knowing someone on the inside (character), and the perceptions and pre-conceived notions of stereotypes (reputation). The sonic truth cut through all of that in a matter of seconds! thanks, Steve.

Madison and Jayden,
We watched it with our kids as well and they thought it was great to see such close friends who stand by each other. Thank you for reading my blog and adding your comments to the post.

Nothing like watching this at work and having students walk in and ask you if you’re crying. Then I showed it them ans we we’re all welling up. Charlotte’s loyalty was fantastic, but I loved that Johnathon was unwavering in his decision to stick by his friend, even if it meant moving on in a big competition or not. “We came on here as a duo, and we’re going to stay here as a duo.” Legendary.

There’s not crying in school! Hey, if it helps kids realize what true friendship is I hope every classroom in America shows it. Thanks for your post Greg and the difference you make in the classroom.

Steve,
I remember learning a lesson about friendship from you, one of the first times I met you. It struck me how you mentioned that there was a difference between some of the “friends” we might have online and how a real friend is the person who’s going to jump out of bed a 2am to help you with a flat tire. Not many people have that many true friends, these days, but this was a GREAT example of friendship and a great model for us to learn to follow!

Btw, the chapter in Orrin’s book, Resolved: 13 Resolutions for Life about friendship is another great source! I have not come across many resources that actually teach how to be a good friend. But Orrin knocks it out of the park with his book!

Thanks for sharing!!
